I drive through a sand storm in a classic body (note: maybe a motocycle).
The road continues forever.
I’ll take the sun with me.
I don’t know how far I have to go to reach the goal.
We’re riders,
constantly wandering somewhere, away from here,
and asking ourselves “What is freedom?”
Run and run
oh oh, to the wonder land, to the wonder land.
As we have no back gears,
just go forward.
From the radio, exciting melodies of 1968 plays.
As the memories cross by each other,
I will show/make a peace sign.
Get across the muddy tracks.
I wonder what we can see at the end of the mirage.
We’re riders,
constantly wandering in our cheap life
and asking ourselves “What is the truth?”
Run and run
oh oh, to the wind, to the wind.
As we have no traffic signs,
just go forward as you feel.
I believe
going straight is not always the right answer.
So, instinctively and hungrily,
let’s take a detour
Go through anyway.
We’re riders,
constantly wandering somewhere, away from here,
and asking ourselves “What is freedom?”
We’re riders,
constantly wandering in our cheap life
and asking ourselves “What is the truth?”
Run and run
oh oh, to the wonder land, to the wonder land.
As we have no back gears,
just go forward.
Run and run
oh oh, to the wind, to the wind.
As we have no traffic signs,
just go forward as you feel.

Ah, this brings back the vibe of ‘200 Miles’ :). I love the beat and of course, now, the lyrics! thanks Kaori and Hazy :)!
I wonder why 1968… transliteration?
Wasn’t the year 1968 ‘famous’ for students’ movement in some countries? the era of ‘flower power’ generation or so? maybe it has something to do with it 🙂
I think you’re right. 1968 was a pivotal year for the peace movement in the USA and Europe against the war-related killing of so many innocent people in Viet Nam and surrounding countries. Young people just wanted the killing to end. The ‘peace sign’ mentioned in the song (index and second finger held up to look like a ‘V’) was a very common gesture of greeting, and it’s still used today. There were many, many songs at this time that talked about these beliefs.
According to My uncle:
1968 was the year where youth were clearly expressing: the love, the peace, the freedom and the revolution.
1968, “Hey Jude” was the first single from the Beatles was in its 8th of 9th weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Top 100 chart.
1968, “romeo and juliet” film was released (a novel by William Shakespeare), where its main song “A time for us / What Is A Youth” gained much popularity and success among the young.
LYRICS: “A time for us / What Is A Youth” (romeo and juliet, 1968)
– by Barratt Waugh –
A time for us, some day there’ll be
When chains are torn by courage born of a love that’s free
A time when dreams so long denied can flourish
As we unveil the love we now must hide
A time for us, at last to see
A life worthwhile for you and me
And with our love, through tears and thorns
We will endure as we pass surely through every storm
A time for us, some day there’ll be a new world
A world of shining hope for you and me
A time for us, at last to see
A life worthwhile for you and me
And with our love, through tears and thorns
We will endure as we pass surely through every storm
A time for us, some day there’ll be a new world
A world of shining hope for you and me

.
note: i’m not sure, but I believe this song ““A time for us / What Is A Youth””. I’ve heard at one scene of Love Rain drama during analog era (70′), but one of its many remake with male voice.
I would not be surprised that he will use “1968” because this would lead us also indirectly related to william shakespeare or love rain 🙂 ^^. we must remember that sukkie video “hidamari” was full of messages, one of which was the words that were written in that wall of glass, those words was one of the most famous sonnets by william shakespeare, obviously this sonnet is dedicated to the love of his life.
Thank you so very much for your terrific translations! These are great lyrics! When I was a young girl in 1968 I asked these questions to myself. As an older woman now, I still ask myself these questions because EVERY stage of life requires reevaluation of which direction we should take. Thanks very much to JKS for including lyrics that remind us that ‘the road continues forever’ and that it’s so very important to remember to be optimistic at every stage of life – to ‘take the sun with me’.
thank you
thanks a lot for translating..It’s another meaningful lyrics. It direct to which path we should choose and take for our lives. ^_^
Tenshi & Hazy, thanks a lot… I owe a lot of understanding Suk’s works and personality… This song speaks more of his journey growing up until now. His struggle to survive in his profession.
I think too that “road race” can be metaphor for life. I can see Suk in this lyrics. He has talked about this before: driving fast and long way, feeling of freedom, driving to wonderland.
I love the melody, the speed tempo, and the guitar sound, sort of rock sound. Love this song very much too. Thank you so much again for helping us understand the lyrics of the Monochrome. You´ve made my day again. 🙂
Right now listening Roadrace on repeat mode!! ? fell in love with it in 2016 endless summer concert when I heard it for first time.. it’s still my hangover I guess.. ?
Soooo beautiful lyrics.. waaah…
