[OSEN=Jung So Young] Would a gamble for ‘Jackpot’ betting Jang Keun Suk and Jang Keun Suk be successful?
Since ‘Jackpot’ is a follow-up drama after ‘Six Flying Dragons’, it takes a huge burden but it draws attention whether it can be another great historical drama or not.
In particular, ‘Jackpot’ airs for the first time on March 28 with KBS 2TV’s ‘Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-Ho’ and MBC’s ‘Monster’ together. Which one will be the winner from the war of dramas?
There was a production presentation for SBS Mon-Tue drama ‘Jackpot’ at SBS company building in Mok-dong, Seoul on March 24. The main actors such as Jang Keun Suk, Yeo Jin-goo, Lim Ji-yeon and Yoon Jin-seo with PD Nam Gun and scriptwriter Gwon Soon-kyu attended the event.
‘Jackpot’ is a drama about the half brothers’ stroy who bet the biggest gamble in the life for only one throne. Jang Keun Suk is taking a role for a son of the king who should not be alive, Baek Dae-gil and Yeo Jin-goo is taking a role for a song of the king who cannot be a king, Yeon Ying-goon.
Yeon Ying-goon’s story has been used as a material for the historical dramas but the thing that makes ‘Jackpot’ special is they took ‘gamble’ as a material. Scriptwriter Gwon Soon-kyu explained the reason why by saying “Actually, there were many fighting stories for the throne. I considered more to find something special from the ordinary story and the material I found from it was gamble”.
The attention towards Jang Keun Suk who is back in the television screen in 2 years through ‘Jackpot’ was amazing. Jang Keun Suk picked the scenario for the reason why he chose this drama by saying “It was like watching a movie. The scenario left lingering images” and he added “I was curious about what kind of face would I show if I was Dae-gil even when I closed my eyes and I really wanted take part in the drama”.
Thus Jang Keun Suk disclosed affection for the drama and revealed his opinion about airing first episode with ‘Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-Ho’ and ‘Monster’. He said, “The biggest strength for us is that we took the material that has not been introduced in the historical drama so far” and added “It is not a simple game but it is a story about men contend for victory betting life and nation. You will be able to empathize if you watch drama”.
In fact, the Jang Keun Suk’s character Dae-gil in ‘Jackpot’ has a tough manly attractiveness, it is quite different to his previous characters and usual image.
Jang Keun Suk disclosed about this “I think there were characters overlapping in people’s memory when I was in my second half of twenties. I doubted for myself about taking beautiful man characters always”.
In addition, “However I guess it can be a drama that I can wear something totally new after getting rid of current images through character Dae-gil at the first drama I take after turning 30. Therefore I chose this. I think I should fulfill my portion during the shooting” he added and showed matured features.
It seems like Yeo Jin-goo found Jang Keun Suk’s attractiveness certainly. Yeo Jin-goo praised Jang Keun Suk by saying “Since Jang Keun Suk acted from when he was young, I feel like I met him before although I first met him through this drama” and he added “We already had script reading but not acting in the proper place by looking at each other’s eyes yet. However I feel relieved already”.
Thus, Jang Keun Suk announced totally different features to his previous characters for ‘Jackpot’. There is no reason not to watch ‘Jackpot’ since it has high quality as a drama, great suitability for the actors and actor Jang Keun Suk who came back after a long time to take active part.
