————————————————- Thoughts by Kaori ————————————————-
Which do you believe, what you heard or what you felt?
Which do you accept, what your loved one said to you or what you felt inside?
Can you ignore what you really feel inside?
Can you ignore what you really want to tell your loved one?
We all know that “what we really feel inside” and “what we say and do in public” don’t always coincide.
Sometimes it’s because we don’t want to hurt others, being too honest.
Sometimes it’s because we don’t want to be hurt, being too honest.
While watching the episode 2, I realized our complicated and funny feelings over and over…
Both In Ha and Yoon Hee had trouble admitting and expressing their own inner feelings.
I don’t think they wanted to lie to themselves.
I don’t think they meant to lie to themselves.
I think they just didn’t know how to deal with their true inner feelings.
I think it’s because of their first love.
Both In Ha and Yoon Hee didn’t talk too much.
But as we have the saying “The eyes are the window of the soul”, we could feel their heart twinges.
Needless to say, both must have felt their own and the other’s true inner feelings.
But both pretended not to notice them.
Each attitude caused effects on the other’s behavior to him/her.
They were upset by the other’s behavior.
And they missed the timing to be honest about their feelings.
No matter how much they regret, a word let go can’t be called back.
To shift out this, I want them to have courage to take a step, not to say sorry for their behavior any more.
The last thing I want to say to cheer them up is “Love SHOULD be never having to say I’m sorry”.
Go, In Ha! Fighting!!!
[END]
after watching LR ep 2 a question came out of my mind… are you willing to sacrifice your love for friendship? we can’t find the right answer. or is there really a right decision for this situation? letting go of someone you love the most is hard. but it could be right if you’re letting go for the sake of your friend’s happiness. of course, you wouldnt want to ruin your friendship more than anything else. but what if in the process of giving up for the sake of your friend, you saved your friendship but not yourself? how is this gonna go? are you willing to see your bestfriend in a relationship with the girl you love? isnt giving the girl you love to your bestfriend means also the end of your friendship? you wouldnt bear see them together. it would hurt so much that you will decide to just move on by yourself and leave them alone, not see them. everybody says it’s easier to move on if you’re not seeing the person otherwise you’ll just be hurt over and over. and when you leave them, go to a different place, you will lose not only the girl you love but also you’re most treasured best friend. Is that fair? and would they be happy about it? on the other hand, if you give up your friendship and go for the girl, you will hurt your bestfriend. but he can move on right? he can go away. and you and the girl will be happy. it’s not always selfish to fight for what you want. In this case, the decision is still in the girl’s hands right? giving up doesnt mean your weak, it only means you’re strong enough to let go… jks forever..
Well said! All the viewers must have had the same feelings as you had. While watching LR, we wondered what we would do if we were them… As you said, it’s difficult to define the right answer. Regarding In Ha and Yoon Hee, they often began to regret just after what they said to the other. We found there were inconsistencies between their words and their deeds. We found their inner struggles. We found their emotion moves up and down. This is LOVE. Love is a mistery. We can’t explain it by reason, but all we know the essence.
That famous words from movie “Love Story” is so meaningful n beautiful, Inha and Seojun’s pure love made me touch a lot, I cant help crying when thinking that they will break in episode 4 bz of some reasons. Love Rain is such a great Korean drama I’ve seen in the past 3 years. Despite its low ratings, it has been so hot among international fans, feel poor for Korean, how cant they feel the meanings of this excellent works
LR in 1970s may not sensational settings like most of pupular Korean dramas have. LR in 1970s may be too slow and look boring for younger generation. It may take a long time to appreciate it for them. But a true masterpiece lives longer in our hearts. Let’s continue to support LR until they can notice this treasure. 😉
Thanks for your post Kaori. To the viewer, the way their heartstrings are being plucked… the choices seem obvious. But to be in their shoes in that moment… who knows what choices we would have made?
I think you are correct, when it’s your first love your inexperience can cause troubles. You can be too forward, putting yourself out here to the one you like only to be rebuffed like Chang Mo. Or you can keep your silence and miss your chance… since it’s K-drama, the course of true love rarely runs smoothly. LOL
I can’t say I was ever a fan of Love Story, maybe because I was too young at the time it came out? I have come to wonder whether the obsession with the line from Love Story is merely there as a poke at the genre of Korean melodrama to begin with.
Truly Chang Mo plays a big role in LR. He is our viewer’s voice, too. I’m sorry he’s going to appear on LR in 2012, but someone will do the same role 🙂
Ep 2 is an extension for the ep 1 when In Ha decided to hide his true feeling for Yoon Hee because he doesn’t want to hurt his best friend and also he thought that Yoon Hee is kind of liking Dong Wook. Sigh, of course, is the only thing I can get out of my mouth for this. The way you said Kaori is so deeper and also subjective for the two who were both in their first love. As an Asian, as came from the time they have been, I understand their restraining to the feelings especially In Ha and Yoon Hee’s characters both are kind of shy and don’t really express their feelings out much even on the normal things but inside them they have passion no less than anyone around them. For that part, with Jang Keun Suk’s outstanding acting to portray In Ha, Yoona is also not bad in my opinion for Yoon Hee’s role. I feel the strong impact from the story. People said 70s part of this drama is depressing, I don’t think that’s the case. You see the 70 youth, they have different approach as nowadays digital generation maybe you just communicate more on the text messaging other than anything else (no criticizing but I think it is true). Let’s all treasure this old style story and keep watching it. I’m already can’t wait for the next one and when the 4 episodes finished which means the new generation story starts, I will definitely miss In Ha and Yoon Hee’s story and I will rewind them sometimes again to open the “old diary” and have a good time with memories. Thanks Kaori for the article.
No matter how much the generation changes, no matter how different LOVE looks between 1970s which represents “analog love” and 2012 which represents “digital love”, the essence of love won’t change… I want to watch this following the episodes.
Kaori chan.. when i read your thoughts.. I was thinking like what Sarah has said.. our Kaori chan is so poetic.. and sounds like Sukkie when he becomes poetic at times in LOVE RAIN… quite a unique way to put up your thoughts and I enjoy reading that how I wish I can hear your voice reciting that too! ^_^
QQ, I tried to be poetic…. it’s hard for me to organize my thoughts in English though… I wanted to be poetic because after watching LR, my romantic side emerged automatically. I’m really into In Ha now. I wish I wanted to see him seeing Yoon Hee secretly. If I did, I couldn’t tell him my inner feelings too.
Oh my dear lord!!!! Kaori chan. Your recap is so poetic itself. Each sentence and line is like a poem, so meaningful and beautiful. I love love your post. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
Last night, I watched EP 2. Love Rain has stirred so much feelings inside me…I couldn’t express in words…. I love this drama so much. I never ever watched any drama without English sub before, I started it with LOVE RAIN. I watched each episode again with Sub and without pushing the fast-forward button too….that said something because I always fast-forwarded all the dramas I watched…yeah…including YAB….kekeke but I made it up by watching YAB a million times up to now.
Watching In Ha struggling with his love and inner self, frustrated and broke my heart!!! My modern thoughts…. I want to tell In HA…..geezzz…In Ha, if you love her so much…tell her. What are you waiting for?? Don’t be such a Noble Idiot. LOVE is all fair and game. If In Ha does as I said, then LOVE RAIN would never existed.
LOVE RAIN, a simple and subtle slow phrase drama that gives viewers breathless with its beautiful scenery and nonstop heart-fluttering of its essence of first love, I can’t help falling for this sweet drama. Love Rain is a lost gem among the digital and glittering drama world!!! I love the 70s musical, the color and style of their clothes, the floral print women, the simple vast and jeans for men….love love…and the ways that people seem to just calming walking (or strolling) instead fast walking style like we are nowadays. I love the value of friendship they portray in the drama.. there are no means characters…just different personalities and attitudes. In fact, I love the 70s setting so much…I don’t even care about the 2012 version..but of course I will watch it because of my LOVE for Jang Keun Suk!!!
I don’t know what’s criteria people considering a good or great drama any more. But to me, Love Rain is special sweet drama that hard to comes nowadays. And based on the low rating, this type of drama will never be made again…so I will cherish and enjoy this rough gem to the fullest….no matter what!!!!
PS.. OMG…I’m looking forward to hear the full version of “Sarang Bi” song sings by Sukkie at the ending of this episode.
Andrea, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I can imagine how you felt watching LR.
I like your description “Love Rain is a lost gem among the digital and glittering drama world!!!” Yes, LR is a real gem! I also fell in In Ha deeply now. But later, I’m going to fall in Joon again… lol.
Nowadays when we arrange meeting with friends, we don’t make a specific rendezvous beforehand. Now we have a mobile phone. We can tell the other if we’re late or we’re in a cafe. For that reason, we may not emphasis on how we meet. We’re sometimes late for the rendezvous. Meanwhile, in 1970s, we can’t see each other easily. We have to pray for a accidental meeting. If we can meet him/ her, the happiness must be bigger than now. We may forget what our inner happiness about love is. LR reminds us of it.
Love Rain episode 2 has a faster pacing than the first episode, another point for PD Yoon for giving that kind of detail. ^,^
I like the mixed feeling and confusion of Yoon Hee this time, for you can actually feel that she’s quietly reciprocating In Ha’s unverified feelings..only to be told not to misunderstand him..tsk..that’s quite embarassing and painful on her part.
No matter what, I can sense that the more people give negative opinions on the first episode, a lot more people are defending them and are able to appreciate the plot and the characters, and the team behind it. ^^
Looking forward on the following Mondays and Tuesdays!!
When Yoon Hee said, “I’m going out with Dong Wook just because everyone wanted me to. Including you, In Ha…”, my heart ached badly… 🙁
Kailey.. you said what i want to say 🙂
I love this 70’s Loverain! I treasure that what most people said ” it’s boring, slow, oldfashion kind” of drama. This kind of drama is rare nowadays, that’s why i wonder why many people give harsh comments for this drama..ahh gezz maybe the didn’t get the beauty of this drama 😛 but i enjoy this drama alot! so i don’t really care for low rating this drama got ( hehe..actually deepdown i care for Suk’s sake! I want him to be recognized by korean viewer for being great actor in Korean 🙂 ). But i hope K-viewers will notice this rare gem later as time go by.
Can’t wait to see next episode that In Ha shows his feeling to Yoon Hee !
Some people said it’s not good, but more than that, many people praise LR! As time goes by, it’ll be proved how precious LR is.
While I was reading all your posts above, it seemed that a heartfelt and soft sigh was being held back…
I like the way Seo Inha just smiled and sang freely as being with the guitar and Yoon Hee…
Meanwhile, every scene he tried to hide his deep emotions, and then felt that he was a coward, I realized that those were such treasured memories cuz I used to be in the same situation…
Also, despite the 70’s expression, the Ep2 described sincerity simply and aptly…despite complicated inner feelings and the fact that the lovers just can say sorry, love still comes from their hearts…
Love makes them both happy and sad, and they love to experience this…
People may say ‘it’s boring’ but I think that in another time when they watch the drama again, they may have a different point of view and love it more…
Day by day, a little more patience as before, Keun Suk is still trying his best to gain recognition from his own country 🙂 Aja!
Nice Mon & Tue ^^ all
Playing with a guitar and singing together must have been their happy moment! 🙂 I really like that heartwarming scene.
For me, LR ep 1 and 2 is beautiful and romantic. I have watched both episodes several times now and each time I feel affected by it. I love the expressions shown by both the lead roles. I think Geun Suk potrayed his character very well, just with his expressions alone.
Thanks Kaori!
Sukkie really had to shed his character to act as In Ha! Can’t wait for episode 3!
i just finish watching episode1 and 2 with subs.. all i can say it’s truly beautiful drama that makes me dreamy as watching it.. though it’s slow but it doesn’t bore me.. it brings back the feeling of being in love again.. i like the sweet moments of the lead characters and some of the funny scene in the drama.. i can’t really understand why others hate LR so much because the setting is in 70’s so i asked my 13 yrs. old niece to watch episode 1 of LR.. just want to know her opinion being teenage girl about this kind of drama and it surprises me ‘coz she didn’t get up even once in front of the computer and she told me that the story is beautiful.. 🙂
migrap26, I don’t think people hate LR. Most of the reputation I found were favorable. Now we can watch dramas on the internet even after the airing, so they don’t have to watch dramas in real-time. I don’t think viewer ratings are direct to the popularity. As your young niece said to you, even younger people can find it superb. Thank for sharing your research 😉
kaori chan, thanks for letting us convey our feelings about LR here. this is the best kdrama i’ve ever seen. everything is so beautiful, the cinematography, the story, the casts. of course JKS is the unbeatable pretty boy here, but all casts r also very pretty. I even like chang mo and the short-hair-girl who desperately likes her. JKS’ acting chop is excellent here as he can perfectly portray In Ha whose characters are definitely opposite of his in real life. I fall in love in In Ha already… kyaaa…. I think that yoon hee is even more aggressive than In Ha here. She’s the one who asked In Ha to come closer under the yellow umbrella, to prepare lunch for him, and to start conversations when In Ha could only stare at her with his loving eyes. I do hope that the 70s scenes won’t end too soon. I just love it. I can’t let In Ha go. I just feel like want to protect him, as he’s so vulnerable, sensitive and introvert. I really like it when he shot the arrow, so manly. My fave character was always Kang Moo Gyul. But now, Moo Gyul ah, so sorry, In Ha replaces you. LR fighting!!! I think koreans are still prejudice towards JKS and choose not to watch his drama. But whatever, who cares, we International fans will support JKS forever
I watched Ep2, it wasn’t boring at all and there are so many beautiful songs in just one episode, love it! Come to think of it, no one has said anything really bad about Sukkie. Most comments were just that Ep1 was too slow and story predictable. Many praised Sukkie’s acting. LR actually came 3rd in the ratings. I was amazed that Sukkie could understand and interpret In Ha’s role so well. Fighting Sukkie!
Finally caught up with both episodes and this drama gives me such a warm feeling. I think I had forgotten how nerve wracking and awkward falling in love is. You try to be so brave, so cool, so in control and in the end nothing really ever goes as planned. When In Ha ran back to hide those paintings I felt my stomach drop. I thought to myself, what a terrible way to be found out…what could he say? I hated that he lied but at the same time understood the desire to protect a friend. The preview for the next episode had me squealing at my computer. Sukkie is amazing and I’m so glad to see him in a drama again. 🙂
at first, its not my cup of tea to watch dramas that has “past thing” or rewind scenes. specially 60’s 70’s i find it boring and corny. but when i started to watch love rain, (Its because of JKS of course) i started to like it. even their styles. The story plot is so nice and cute as if i want to share also to my mom and the whole family. i wish i could have a copy of the whole series when its done. please do inform us if there will be. please. please. please. And wish JKS will visit our country here soon too. thanks for all who contributes for this site.. keep posting! God bless.
