[Music] English translation of the lyrics “春になれば (haru ni nare ba; When spring comes)”

Credits: PONYCANYON
Lyrics: Ogawa Tomoyuki
English translation: tenshi_akuma and Hazy from ECI

When spring comes,
many flowers will perhaps bloom again along this avenue.

I don’t know why, but distant memories become dearer to me.
As time goes by, they become more vivid.

We were too young,
so that (just) “goodbye” brought tears to our eyes day and night.
But now that memory embraces me with gentle warmth.
The “thank you” that was left unsaid (at that time),
still lingers in my heart.
Under the cherry tree where we used to be,
(now you’re no longer here, )
but spring comes again like nothing happened.

I wonder where you’re now and looking at this spring.
Which color reminds you of our memories?

Remember we were certainly here on that day.
But Now that memory smiles (at me) like sunshine filtering through the leaves.
The “thank you” that “goodbye” brings
Even if I won’t see you again,
Under the cherry tree where we used to be,
(now you’re no longer here, )
I can still see you there.

Our cherry-blossom-colored memories.
Even in any season, it blooms in my heart.

We were too young,
so that (just) “goodbye” brought tears to our eyes day and night.
But now it becomes flower petals and covers all over the town.
The “thank you” that was left unsaid (at that time),
still lingers in my heart.
Under the cherry tree where we used to be,
(now you’re no longer here, )
but spring comes again like nothing happened.

  1. I think in all nationalities spring is meaningful specially for love memories
Japanese have satsibon and cherry blossems and latent festival for spring as I heard befor and saw in a Japanese chanel attached alot of people with its pretty nature,
this lyric is so nice and smoothly remembered a childhood love~as I imagine it…

  2. Thanks Tenshi and Hazy….

    Really beautiful and meaningful…
Sometimes love comes at an inconvinient time..
first/young love, even if it would turn out not to be your biggest love, will always leave a vivid memory(good or bad) and determines the rest of your lovelife..how and if you will be able to love again.
First taste of love is so innocent and sweet
Sometimes you just need to meet the right person who will give you another taste of life..all you have to do is open up to that new taste without comparisons…

  4. Your translations are priceless – thank you so much! These lyrics are so poetic, loving, and filled with warmth – they paint beautiful pictures that I want to linger with in my mind 🙂

I’ve read the interviews where he’s said that via this album he’s giving us a window into a more private side of himself. I think it’s very brave of him to share these thoughts and feelings with the public, and I’m honored to be one of his fans because he works so hard and he’s so open and honest. This album is a gift filled with real emotions – love, hurt, confusion, dreams, determination to move forward in life while embracing memories. No matter what our ages are, there’s so much in these songs to inspire and motivate us – and that’s the best possible gift that he could have given.

  5. Lovely Lyrics.

Thanks for sharing Dear tenshi. really appreciate your work and dedication. Thanks to You, I can understand more the thoughts of our dear sukkie. I really admire you.

    A. “We were too young,so that (just) “goodbye” brought tears to our eyes day and night”.
    B. “The ‘Goodbye’ dyed two people too young in tears every day”

Both translations have “Too Young”, but with different expression.
the “A” comprises perhaps from 17 -20 years of age, while “B” comprises perhaps from 18-25 years of age. depending on how much years having the first person.

Period of YOUTH: 20-25 years old, Period of YOUTH-ADULT: 26-35 years old

This song is one of my favorites. sukkie said: “the lyrics sounds like a conversation, … . I felt like I was speaking to friends in junior or high school days. It’s my favorite song in this album”

He feels but that does not mean it is (‘?!?-!), then “friends in junior/highschool days”, will be literally? or subjectively?

    >+ “to friends in junior or high school days”
    or
    >+ “to friends with a personality of junior/high school = maybe CHODING”
    or
    >+ “speaking with a junior friend or junior friends”.

well, I’ll go to meditate on these days 🙂 , thanks for the translation. 😉

    xoxo! <3

    • Hi Fabiland7,

      > B. “The ‘Goodbye’ dyed two people too young in tears every day”
I don’t know where you got this translation, but I’m afraid this doesn’t make sense.

Plus, I don’t know why you always try to connect all the lyrics with his personal love relationship… You seem a new eel, so you like guessing, reading his latest interview or the lyrics. But I think you’ll know what he meant to say more after you become an old eel. I hope you’ll be able to appreciate the translation simply to enjoy this album 😉
