SEOUL, Aug. 22 (Yonhap) — Hallyu star Jang Keun-suk has been selected as the MC for the survival program ‘Re:Born,’ where 12 K-pop groups will compete for a chance to debut in Japan. According to industry sources on the 21st, Jang recently accepted the offer and is set to begin filming soon.
Jang Keun-suk, known for his roles in dramas like ‘You’re Beautiful,’ ‘Mary Stayed Out All Night,’ and ‘Bel Ami,’ has gained immense popularity across Asia, particularly in Japan, where he earned the nickname ‘Asia Prince.’ He has also achieved success as a singer, releasing multiple albums and singles in Japan, and holding tour concerts.
In 2016, Jang hosted the first season of Mnet’s audition program ‘Produce 101,’ which sparked a major trend in South Korea’s broadcasting and music industries.
Reflecting on his new role, Jang stated, “With the intense competition among audition programs in recent years, I’ve always believed these shows could be a life-changing opportunity for some. I am genuinely excited to welcome the contestants and will do my best to support K-pop artists in their Japanese debuts.”
‘Re:Born’ will feature 12 K-pop groups from smaller agencies, including Amos, DKB, Diamond, and Dignity, competing for a debut in Japan. The show will premiere on September 27 on Japan’s Space Shower TV and the online platform Abema.
