After being absent from the TV screen for more than two years, Jang Keun Suk returned in the SBS drama ‘Jackport/Royal Gambler’. His passionate acting in the drama exceeded imagination. How did he immerse into the role of Dae-gil? We’ll find out.

In the Mon-Tue SBS historical drama ‘Jackport/Royal Gambler’ (scriptwriter Kwon Soon Kai, PD Nam Gun), JKS leads the 24 episodes drama playing Dae-Gil, the son forgotten by his father the king. There are now only two episodes to go. Through his performance in this drama, JKS has received a lot of praises for his passion and maturity in his acting.

Born as the son of the king but had to be given away, Dae-gil was a man with a lot of luck who survived various life-threatening incidents. When he was a baby, he was shot by an arrow and thrown off a cliff and survived. Due to Baek Man-Geum’s protection, he also escaped the trap set by King Suk-Jong.

After he grew up, Dae-gil also came across similar situations. As Dae-gil’s fate, JKS had to experience the most difficult hardships which were unimaginable. From when he first appeared in the drama, he had to run around and kept getting into trouble, leaving the viewers with a deep impression. Later, he was beaten cruelly by his father’s killer, Lee In-Jwa and had his arms and legs broken. Then he fell off the cliff after being stabbed.

Afterwards, he was sold as a slave to a salt farm. He had to endure beatings wrapped in a woven mat and thrown into a shit hole. He was also buried in mud flats up to his neck and even ate the live crabs ‘cluck cluck cluck’ in the mud flats. Finally, he even ate a live snake due to hunger which shocked everyone. This kind of level is the ‘profession limit’, isn’t it?

These acting are not easy for anyone. For JKS, seems he successfully portrayed the perfect Dae-gil was because he was able to put down everything. He burst out the acting abilities he has been accumulating. During filming for these difficult scenes, JKS would make jokes to relieve the nervousness of the production team, creating a relaxing atmosphere at the film sites. Because of JKS’ hard work, the mud flat scene completed successful amidst a happy atmosphere, the snake eating scene was also completed without mishaps. As the lead actor, of course one would do his best in his acting performance, but to be able to show consideration to everyone at the film site, it has to be due to his fine character.

As to JKS’ passionate acting, the director of Royal Gambler, Nam Gun said: “He really is an amazing actor. Although it was very difficult both mentally and physically for him, but whenever he’s at the film site, no matter when, he’s always serious (with work) and showed sparkles in his eyes. He’s very courteous to the other actors and staff, and observed proper manners. He left a big impression on me.” [END]
