[News] Actor Jang Keun-suk to attend int’l film festival as director

SEOUL, May 12 (Yonhap) — South Korean actor Jang Keun-suk has directed a film that will be featured in an international film festival opening in July, his publicist said Thursday.

“The Great Legacy” has been chosen as one of the short films to be showcased at Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), Ytree Company said.

The festival was launched in 1997 to promote fantasy, horror and sci-fi flicks and put Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province on the global film festival map.

Jang has already made his directorial debut with the short film “Do You Still Envy Such a Life?,” which won a special award at the 2012 Short Short Film Festival & Asia in Japan. He also wrote the screenplay, edited the movie and starred as the main actor.

“The Great Legacy” centers on a man whose father loses consciousness, leaving behind only his savings that can be accessed by a bankbook. The son obsesses over finding the bankbook and neglects his duty to take care of his father.

“To us, dads may feel like such remote figures,” the actor-turned-auteur was quoted as saying. “Maybe that’s why some of us never get to call someone a dad.”

Jang is currently pursuing his Master’s and Ph.D. in theater and film at Hanyang University in Seoul. His classmates collaborated on the latest short film, the publicist said.

This year’s BIFAN runs from July 21-31.

  5. So proud.. I feel very lucky to be an eel of a MAN of so many talents.. Suk is just 29 n there is a long way ahead to see his more hidden talents.. Love u a lot dear <3<3.. But Is there any way to watch these 2 movies ?? And i could n't even watch his movie CAMP. Can i watch it online??

  11. Do proud of this wonderful and very talented young man. He dreamed big..worked hard and achieved a lot..never doubt him for a moment for a man who can withstand so much negativity and criticism yet keep believing In himself can move the world…trust him..lean on him…keep following him…he won’t stop to amaze us

  12. Though I am very proud of his achievement, I still hope that he will act more than direct more. I like to see him in dramas/movies. It’s too wasted if he only stays behind the camera

    • Sukkie has a lot of talents, and wants to try many different things. But he has always said that he is an actor. I love him so much when he sings and dances too. He will probably keep doing different things.

      I hope we will get to see his short movie.

  15. I can see he has grown so much. His personality seems to have calm down and more mature. Videos from 2015 makes me sense that he is not happy or perhaps thinking hard of what path to take next. Hopefully he found what he was looking for and don’t be so sad anymore. Wish you luck and happiness
