  1. Only now I have understood Korean dances, where a simple movement of the hand can have so many meanings.
I rarely watched a movie with the impression that what I see is real, without thinking how well one actor or another plays. Although realized in 2006, Hwang Jin Yi is full of freshness and the producers have been blessed in the choice of actors. Only the choice of JKS in the role of Hwang Jin Yi’s great love, his play, the expression of his eyes in which one can read the purity of his soul made the whole story believable. If you miss JKS or if you haven’t had time to see the film, please do watch it, and then try to read about Hwang Jin Yi, look for her sijo poems. Below is one of them to convince you how sensitive she was. I wish I could think like her:

I will divide this long November night
    and coil by coil
lay it under a warm spring blanket
    and roll by roll
    when my frozen love returns
I will unfold it to the night.

Thanks to JKS, I have come to know another part of the spiritual richness of Korea.

    • YES he’s a gate to culture. Totally. To so many things. Now if u notice, whenever he’s happy, from the core of his Korean patriot soul, he bursts with traditional dance. U’ll c it in his performances in Korea (new subbed vid of his CRI-PRESENT recently uploaded on YT), in BTS vids etc’. This is how he expresses pure happiness n it’s such a pleasure c’ing him – he’s no Hwang Jin Yi as a traditional dancer but he’s so into the feeling

Sukkie was so real in HJY is coz he was really heart broken, his girlfriend left him, u’ll find he talks abt the significance of HJY to him as an actor in many interviews http://jangkeunsukforever.com/archives/20609 (chose this 1 coz “Hwang” spelled different so not found in search). N only if u think u can handle the full story of what he went through, check “via lactea” part 2 in this blog. Heart breaking.

Abt Hwang Jin Yi (HJY), this actress is phenomenal (b4 knowing Sukkie she was the 1 I adored the most, just from her acting, didn’t need more. How a man can be more impressive than all women is beyond my comprehension), check her in DAMO u’ll b amazed, both her n the drama. Also there’s a movie HJY with great cast u’ll b happy 2 know. That actress (Song Hye-Kyo) suffered in her life, considered 2 b the most beautiful Korean woman but got her heart broken time after time.

U’ll c that everyone Sukkie was cast with, will lead u to unforgettable dramas n movies. From Switch – Six flying dragons, Jung Jin Young that Sukkie was cast with 3 (!!) times – “King and the clown” (same PD as Happy life), Others from Happy life – The Chaser, 2 most veteran actors from Daebak- “Warrior Baek Dong Soo” (this one was described as epic, strongly recommend although not based on true story it’s based on TRUE LEGEND of marital art so is almost the same when Korean history is concerned. STUNNING acting) n so on… PD of LOVE RAIN is the 1 created Hallyu phenomena with 4 dramas that are referred 2 as “seasonal”, 1 in particular but don’t think it’s yr taste although considered masterpieces. Important thing is that he wanted Sukkie, only Sukkie, postponed all production just to wait for him till his schedule allowed him to participate.

  2. I thank you for the explanations and links. I had read the interview, but long before I watched the movie so I didn’t make the connection. I think this blog is a must read both by new fans but once again after someone manage to see all JKS movies and concerts.

A path to knowledge, he certainly is.
When I watched Hong Gil Dong, I read even about the color code used in traditional architecture, the significance of the painting behind the royal throne, and Korean celadons (pottery).
When I saw MVs filmed on Jeju island I looked for the island: Did you know that it is officially declared one of the 7 new wonders of nature? Everything is in harmony and people have been able to preserve and beautify their heritage. You will see old stone statues but also new ones, all proof of a certain intelligent and healthy humor.

Starting to know the country, the history, the people, even the traditional food and kimchi, I understood why he is so proud to be made in Korea. Only such an amazing country could give such a complex and wonderful man.

    • Abt traditional royal customs, check if u haven’t watched “The royal tailor” with PSH, u didn’t mention the pattern on the gown, not sure where it is but almost confident it’s in 1 of above mentioned historical dramas. If not, last possibility is “Dong Yi” (not at all just a love story! Much, much more) or “The crowned clown” with Sukkie’s co-star from Daebak, Yeo Jin Goo.

How young Sukkie treats the royal gown with interest n respect https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJypicjphWg&t=426
He’s a fashionist even in Historical Hong Gil Dong http://sports.hankooki.com/lpage/entv/200711/sp2007110507581358390.htm
said he wanted 2 play in it cause it was unusual at that time, historical drama combining modern elements. He likes that, it was said that in High-Cut photo shoot it also was his idea 2 combine but the link is broken. As usual, eels see the high level of art while others go mad (in comments, in another unrelated topic) http://jangkeunsukforever.com/archives/8442

As u described Jeju so vividly, that’s my weakest point, always has been (old with new) – light comedy abt life in Jeju between 2 worlds, TOP STAR YOO BAEK, they still practice free diving as an occupation. N dunno if it’s real or made just 4 comic, but use a pig bludder as football (lol) n many other funny stuff. Say just from reading it yr not lol’ing….
1 more combining modern elements in historical era in Jeju with humor – “Tamra”. If yr up 2 light comedies y’ll enjoy the idea of history fusion in both. If it’s totally not yt cup of tea just try Tamra n c if yr hooked 2 continue.

Pottery – Goddess of fire (Moon Geun Young). Jewel of all jewels (except for Sukkie that is a world wonder of all times even after c’ing all these wonders) is “Jewel in the palace” – this 1 is a long Journey so be ready, u speak of forgetting it’s a movie n getting a feeling all is real, that’s the 1. This actress is the only 1 possesses innocence of a child same as Sukkie n she’s over 30 in that drama.

N yes, making connections is the hardest thing 2 do. Impossible 2 go back n find, if remembered at all, that is exactly why started tagging every piece of info, as he made my brain so overloaded n confused with loads of info of which large parts couldn’t even understand when n where took place. Hopefully someone with writing ability’ll want 2 take it 2 the next level n create a full story. Managed 2 connect the dots n paint a clear picture, only some “holes” or contradicting/unclear, very small sections in it.
